The school district took to Facebook to alert the community saying students were in classrooms and being taught as usual. Since the original post, the school district took to social media again with an update. According to the Belgrade School District, a staff member saw a student in a vehicle in the high school parking lot with what appeared to be a gun.

They immediately reported it to the building and district administration along with law enforcement. That is when the school was put into a shelter in place. The students in question were searched and the reported gun seen was a novelty toy and Belgrade Police confirmed this.

The shelter in place was lifted at the end of 5th period for the high school. " Thank you to our staff and Belgrade Police for acting swiftly to identify the perceived threat and take action accordingly. Building staff was also able to safely escort our student athletes out of the building as scheduled.

We understand these kinds of incidents cause a great deal of concern for students and parents. We appreciate everyone remaining calm while the incident was resolved," said the district in a post on social media..
