Following Friday's practice leading up to the weekend, the Chicago Bears announced two stunning moves involving two offensive players. The team plans to waive former third-round pick Velus Jones Jr. and release full back Khari Blasingame.

Since the moves were announced after 3:00pm on Friday, the moves won't be officially processed until Saturday. #Bears Roster Moves: Released FB Khari Blasingame and Waived WR Velus Jones Jr. Leading up to the 2024 season, the Bears had high hopes for Jones, despite moving him to a new position at running back, and even turned down a trade offer for him prior to the start of the regular season.

However, Jones' season started off on a bad note after the team's starting kick returner muffed a kickoff , leading to a turnover in the season opener. Jones was listed as a healthy inactive over the following five games. During the "Hard Knocks" finale, general manager Ryan Poles noted that he wouldn't trade Jones for anything less than a fourth round pick.

Two months later, he's going to have to move on from Jones for nothing instead. As for Blasingame, the team's full back has fallen out of the pack in the new offense being implemented by Shane Waldron. Blasingame played two games this season and was a healthy inactive for the other four contests.

Offensive lineman Doug Kramer Jr. instead served as the team's additional blocker in goal line sets. The two moves are unfortunate news for the two players, who could still return to the team on the practice squad, but they were necessary moves to be made.

The Bears currently have three players slated to be activated from the injured reserve soon and the team previously had no open spots on the active roster. Once these moves become official tomorrow, the Bears will have two open spots for either pass rusher Jacob Martin, offensive tackle Larry Borom, or running back Travis Homer. All three players were full participants in practice on Friday.

Neither Jones nor Blasingame seemed to be in the team's long-term offensive plans any longer and the decision to move on from Jones stings the worst. The Bears drafted Jones in the third-round of the 2022 NFL Draft. In his career, Jones has totaled 12 receptions for 135 yards with one touchdown.

Jones' tenure with the Bears will be defined by false promises, big drops, and crucial fumbles that the team can't afford to have any longer. This article first appeared on A to Z Sports and was syndicated with permission..
