LINCOLN — Scottsbluff 's Oliver Carpenter finished third at No. 2 singles during the final day of the NSAA state boys tennis tournament Friday at the Woods Tennis Center. The Bearcats junior and third-seed in the bracket beat Lincoln Christian's Grant DeHanna, the No.
4, seed in straight sets (6-0, 6-3). Carpenter was one of two Bearcats to finish on the medal stand in singles play, and Scottsbluff 's top doubles team did as well. Kian Blomstedt, a senior and No.
6 seed, finished seventh at No. 1 singles as he beat Lincoln Christian's Ace Calfee 8-1. Blomstedt lost his first consolation match on the day to Lincoln Standing Bear's Samuel Cooper (8-5).
"We have not had a singles player reach the medal rounds in more than eight seasons," Bearcats coach Darren Emerick said. Scottsbluff 's Matthew Hafner and Joseph Escamilla-Venzor finishes sixth at No. 1 doubles.
The tandem fell to Central Catholic's Kyle Kelly/Alec Meagh i8-5 in their final match of the tournament. The Bearcats finished the tournament sixth overall with 25.250 points.
Hafner also captured his 100th career win during the tournament, a feat that Blomstedt achieved earlier this season. Blomstedt, Escamilla, Hafner and Thomas Thomalla are the Bearcats four seniors. "All four student athletes have helped build a successful program that will serve as a foundation for future seasons continued strength," Emerick said.
The Bearcats team downed McCook's Aaron Frank/Reid Loop 8-5 in the first consolation match of the day. Mount Michael Benedictine won the state title with 58.0 points, followed by Elkhonor North (41.

Lluvia Calihua-Gonzales and Angelique Camargo had 18 and 17 digs, respectively, for Minatare, and Jimena Perez had seven assists.
