A seal was spotted on Brighton beach enjoying the sunny weather. On April 6, a beachgoer noticed the seal on the seafront between Brighton Palace Pier and the Sea Lanes. Rescue charity British Divers Marine Life Rescue was contacted and confirmed that the seal had returned the water before medics arrived.
A spokesperson for the charity said on Monday: “The seal was reported to our rescue hotline yesterday but before we were able to get any Marine Mammal Medics there, the seal went back into the water. “It appeared to be an adult seal in mid-moult. It's imperative they are left well alone to gain plenty of rest in order to conserve their energy for their next venture out at sea. “We recommend keeping a distance of 100m minimum from the seal so as not to disturb them.” The charity advised that anyone concerned about a seal’s welfare or members of the public getting too close they should contact the rescue hotline on 01825 765546 for advice.
