"I am absolutely overwhelmed with the response"

One of Belfast's most iconic nightlife venues is being brought back to life with a special reunion party. Beach Club in the Odyssey Pavillion was the spot to be in the city for clubgoers wanting good drinks and even better tunes. Unfortunately, the palm trees and glow sticks are not making a return to the Odyssey - as the space is now a learning centre - but clubbers can relive the atmosphere at a special event held in Thompsons Garage next month.

DJ Courty, who was no stranger to the decks at Beach Club, told Belfast Live about how they wanted to bring back the iconic days of Beach Club and celebrate a party of NI's nightlife history. He said: "I was listening to different radio stations and they all were playing songs from back in the day with all the nostalgia of Beach Club - everybody was phoning in saying remember Beach Club this and remember Beach Club that.

"In January time, my phone went absolutely ballistic with people telling me they were talking about me and Beach Club on Q Radio. "Amy McGuckin was talking about it so I reached out to a few of the DJs and I got Amy to give me a call and said right let's get this sorted." With DJ Courty's cousin Mark being the owner of Thompson's, there was no better place to get the gang back together and host a night celebrating Beach Club with all those who used to go.

The event is already completely sold out but those who missed out do not need to fret as they have a few Beach Club events planned for the future - with a theme night like those that were regularly held in the original club already on the cards. DJ Courty continued: "The Beach Club back in the day was a place where you could go and just have fun. "The music style of things was just everything goes - you had dance music, you had hip hop, R&B, you had the Venga Boys, you had the Killers.

It was just a wide range of music and everybody just had a good time. "There was just a good vibe about the place and it was all beach-themed so there was nothing else like it. It was like being on your holidays.

" He said that the venue was just about having fun - from UV discos to foam parties to games on the stage. The event is strictly for over 30s so that those who attended the actual Beach Club between 2003 and 2013 have the opportunity to relive their clubbing days on the dancefloor. "I am absolutely overwhelmed with the response and once we sold it out within a couple of weeks, I couldn't believe it myself," he added.

"We've got all the DJs together, the UV props, the confetti cannons and we've got a few of the dancers back. "I am really looking forward to it, we are buzzing and all the playlists have all been locked and loaded already."
