It's been five years since Fleabag graced our screens, and it's safe to say the BBC series is sorely missed. Based on Phoebe Waller-Bridge's one-woman play of the same name, Fleabag featured the actress as a free-spirited yet angry and confused young woman residing in London. The show was rife with drama, from her tumultuous love life and family relationships to encounters with quirky characters.
Fleabag enjoyed two successful series, earning critical acclaim and viewer popularity. Waller-Bridge bagged a BAFTA for Best Female Comedy Performance for the first series, while the second series garnered 11 Primetime Emmy Award nominations and won six. Waller-Bridge took home awards for Outstanding Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actress, and Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series.
Despite calls for a third series, Waller-Bridge told The Hollywood Reporter that she believes Fleabag's story has concluded, although she may revisit the character in her later years. She expressed pride in her artistic integrity, having initially decided against a second season. Phoebe Waller-Bridge has since become a prominent figure in the TV and film industry, but what about the rest of the cast since the BBC show ended? The series chronicled the life of Fleabag, a woman grappling with love and grief over her friend Boo.
Fleabag was a hit with critics, earning Waller-Bridge a BAFTA and several award nominations during its run. Since the conclusion of the show, Waller-Bridge has been the creative force behind the successful drama series Killing Eve, featuring Sandra Oh and Jodie Comer, and also contributed to script revisions for the James Bond film No Time to Die. Waller-Bridge has also graced the screen in Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, Solo: A Star Wars Story and His Dark Materials.
The 'hot priest' became an instant hit with Fleabag viewers when he made his debut in the second series. Despite a romantic connection with Fleabag, his devotion to God prevented them from becoming a couple. Post-Fleabag, Irish actor Andrew Scott has portrayed Colonel John Parray in the BBC series His Dark Materials, Christopher in Black Mirror, Lord Merlin in The Pursuit of Love and Tom Ripley in the drama Ripley.
Scott has also featured in Sam Mendes' film 1917, All of Us Strangers and is set to star in the upcoming film Blue Moon. Claire's relationship with Fleabag was fraught, but over the course of the series, they developed a mutual love and respect. Sian Clifford was awarded the Female Performance In A Comedy Programme at the BAFTAs in 2020.
Clifford has since appeared in a variety of TV shows and films including the comedy Two Weeks to Live, ITV drama Quiz as Diana Ingram, Inside No. 9, See How They Run and His Dark Materials. In 2024, she starred in Doctor Who, Everyone Else Burns, Disney+ film Young Woman and the Sea and even featured in the Christmas advert for Waitrose.
Known as the Godmother, she became a stepmother to Claire and Fleabag after marrying their father. The artist was notoriously snide and unpleasant towards Fleabag, making her one of the series' antagonists. Olivia Colman is a cherished actress, celebrated for her roles in Peep Show, Green Wing, Broadchurch and other hit TV shows.
While portraying the Godmother in the BBC series, Colman clinched a Best Actress Oscar for her role as Queen Anne in The Favourite. Beyond Fleabag, she has since starred in The Queen as Queen Elizabeth II, Paul King's Wonka film, Heartstopper, Marvel series Secret Invasion, Miss Havisham in drama series Great Expectations, Wicked Little Letters and most recently, Paddington In Peru. Frank is Claire and Fleabag's father who marries his daughters' Godmother.
He features throughout the series. Bill Paterson is a seasoned TV actor, known for roles in Auf Wiedersehen, Pet, Doctor Who, Outlander and The Witches. Since Fleabag concluded, Paterson has appeared in Brassic, Ted Lasso, The Sandman, House of The Dragon and Halo.
Boo was Fleabag's best friend and business partner at the cafe they ran together. Boo tragically took her own life after discovering that her boyfriend had been unfaithful. Jenny Rainsford has since featured in Call The Midwife, Showtrial and Persuasion.
Belinda was a triumphant businesswoman who encounterd Fleabag (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) during an awards event hosted by Fleabag's sister, Claire. The two share a poignant exchange at a bar and discuss female suffering. Kristin Scott Thomas leapt at the opportunity to be part of the BBC seriesa after admitting she was a fan.
Following the conclusion of the show in 2019, Thomas has joined the ranks of Apple TV+'s espionage thriller Slow Horses as Diana Tavener and has taken the director's chair for North Star. This character is seen regularly throughout the series grappling with a sexual harassment controversy. Hugh Dennis, a household name in British comedy, is best known for his roles on Mock The Week, QI, and as a guest host on Have I Got News for You.
His acting credits include Outnumbered, My Hero, and Not Going Out, and he even made an unexpected appearance in the James Bond movie No Time To Die. Hugh Dennis is currently in a relationship with Claire Skinner, his co-star from Outnumbered. Martin, depicted as an alcoholic and abusive spouse to Claire and father to Jake from a previous marriage, also exhibits offensive behaviour towards others and self-identifies as a "good guy" with a "bad personality".
Recognisable to many as conspiracy theorist and ex-journalist Murray from Stranger Things, Gelman has since featured in Lady in the Lake, Inside Job, and lent his voice to Family Guy..
