Jules Hudson has been a familiar face on BBC's Escape to the Country for over a decade but, away from the cameras, the property expert leads a very private life

A well-known face and popular presenter from BBC's Escape to the Country, property expert Jules Hudson has an intriguing background that most viewers won't necessarily know about because he started his career in the military before making a switch to television production. Born and brought up in Colchester, Essex, Jules studied Field Archaeology at the University of Wales and furthered his studies with a master's degree in Archaeological Survey at Durham in 1996. Given his academic background, it's not surprising that Jules' passion for history and archaeology ignited his TV career.

His television journey began behind the camera, working on productions for the Discovery Channel and later Channel 4's Time Team, reports the Mirror . His job took him to various parts of the world, including South America, Europe, the Middle East, and India. According to the Liverpool Echo, Jules' friendly and approachable manner is a product of years spent travelling the world for filming.

In 2007, Jules became a lead presenter on Escape to the Country. The BBC programme features buyers looking to trade city living for the tranquillity of the countryside. Jules aids these property hunters by showcasing a variety of homes across the UK.

Each episode also includes a Mystery House, carefully selected by the experts and unveiled to the buyers at the end of their search. Off-screen, Jules is frequently featured in magazines like Countryfile Magazine and Homes and Gardens. Yearning for peace, he left behind the hustle and bustle of London life to settle in the quiet of Herefordshire with his wife Tania and their son Jack.

The Hensons made headlines in 2012 when they reportedly purchased their farmhouse for £610,000, according to The Mirror, before investing an additional £100k in an upscale renovation. Despite the comforts of his current lifestyle, Jules's humble beginnings were in a lively bed and breakfast, where a diversity of guests influenced his easy-going charm that viewers adore on Escape to the Country. Contemplating the balance between professional and personal life, Jules shared his insights with The Express: "Anybody with any busy life will tell you that the balance between your working life and family life can be tricky.

" He elaborated: "I've got a young son, we've got our own life here in Herefordshire that is very dear to us, so you know, trying to balance it all can be difficult but it's a partnership, it's a team effort through the family. We all understand it, we have mortgages to pay and bills to pay and all the rest of it, it is our working life." Jules also acknowledges the challenge of balancing work and personal life, stating: "It's not easy but that's the trouble that every family in the country faces, let's be honest, you just have to work hard and play.

" Jules keeps his Instagram followers engaged with regular glimpses into his home life with his son, including their recent embarkation on a "little project" for their home. Opening up about a personal loss, Jules revealed that his father passed away three years ago at the age of 93. In a conversation with the Express, he reflected: "We are all getting older, or I'm getting older.

I think I'm more conscious about the things that I eat, the amount that I drink.Jules further shared: "[My son] loves to kick a football around or a rugby ball, all of that sort of stuff. So I have to keep up with him.

I don't want to let him down. ""Also, it's a really good measure of how fit I'm feeling. I'm also in the military reserve so every year I do a fitness test which makes you dust off your trainers and get back into it.

" Despite a demanding filming schedule, Jules is committed to maintaining a healthy work-life balance, especially given the long hours spent on TV. However, he admitted to not being strictly adherent to diets. "Like most people you find your own sort of pattern that works," he expressed.

"But I'm more conscious of it, having a young son who is super fit and super cool. It holds a mirror up to you, doesn't it?" For more property stories join our Amazing Welsh Homes Facebook group here . Find your own property for sale to create a maximalist haven here:.
