The TV star lives with his wife and son BBC Escape to the Country Jules Hudson is a familiar face on TV screens. The property expert first started his career in the military, before shifting his interest into TV production. Jules keeps his private life under wraps, currently living in a five-bedroom home in Herefordshire.
Jules Hudson grew up in Colchester, Essex, before studying Field Archaeology at the University of Wales. He went on to complete a masters degree in Archaeological Survey at Durham in 1996. It comes as no surprise that Jules kickstarted his TV career by fulfilling his passion for history and archaeology.
Before he appeared in front of the camera, Jules' journey began in television production. He worked on the Discovery Channel and later Channel 4's Time Team. He also produced several drama documentaries and military history series.
Jules' friendly and approachable manner comes from the years he spent travelling the world while filming. He worked with different people all over the world, including in South America, Europe, the Middle East and India. In 2007, he became one of the main presenters on Escape to the Country.
Buyers appear on the BBC show with the hopes of restarting their life in the peace and tranquillity of the countryside. Jules offers property searchers a variety of houses all over the UK. Each episode also includes a Mystery House , carefully chosen by the experts which is shown to the buyers at the end of their search.
Jules is just one of many TV personalities who regularly appear on the BBC show . Other presenters include Alistair Appleton, Briony May Williams, Sonali Shah and Nicki Chapman. Away from the screen, Jules often appears in magazines, including the Countryfile Magazine and Homes & Gardens.
He moved away from London for a quieter lifestyle, now living in Herefordshire with his wife Tania and their son Jack. It is reported the family purchased the farmhouse for £610,000 in 2012, later investing an additional £100,000 in renovations, according to The Mirror . But Jules has not spend all of his life living in a luxury home, as he grew up in a bed and breakfast.
The TV personality owes his sociable personality to his experience meeting new people everyday from a wide range of backgrounds, which explains why he has perfected his approachable persona on Escape to the Country. He spoke to The Express about juggling his professional and personal life, saying: "Anybody with any busy life will tell you that the balance between your working life and family life can be tricky." He continued: "I've got a young son, we've got our own life here in Herefordshire that is very dear to us, so you know, trying to balance it all can be difficult but it's a partnership, it's a team effort through the family.
" "We all understand it, we have mortgages to pay and bills to pay and all the rest of it, it is our working life." He acknowledged his work-life balance: "It's not easy but that's the trouble every family in the country faces let's be honest, you just have to work hard and play." Jules regularly updates his 66,000 followers on Instagram, posting snippets from his home life with his son.
They recently teamed up to get started on a "little project" for their home. Jules recently opened up about a family loss, as his dad died three years ago at the age of 93. Speaking exclusively to the Express , he said: "We are all getting older, or I'm getting older.
I think I'm more conscious about the things that I eat, the amount that I drink. Jules continued: "[My son] loves to kick a football around or a rugby ball, all of that sort of stuff. So I have to keep up with him.
I don't want to let him down. "Also, it's a really good measure of how fit I'm feeling. I'm also in the military reserve so every year I do a fitness test which makes you dust off your trainers and get back into it.
" With a busy filming schedule Jules aims to get his work life balance right as the hours working on TV are long. But he divulged not being a "slave" to diets. Like most people you find your own sort of pattern that works," he explained.
"But I'm more conscious of it having a young son who is super fit and super cool. It holds a mirror up to you, doesn't it.".
