Don Gilet, the latest addition to the Death in Paradise cast, made his debut as DI Mervin Wilson during the 2024 Christmas special. He has taken over the lead detective role from Ralf Little, who portrayed Detective Inspector Neville Parker. This isn't Gilet's first stint on the popular show set on the French Caribbean island of Guadeloupe, which doubles as the fictional St Marie.
The actor had a minor role back in 2015 alongside then-lead Kris Marshal, who played DI Humphrey Goodman, reports the Express . However, the former EastEnders star has now revealed that he has banned his family, including his 18-year-old son, from visiting him on the island while filming. Since taking on the lead role, Don revealed he has imposed strict personal restrictions to demonstrate his commitment to the role.

The actor has also forbidden visits from his father, sister, and adult son, despite their anticipation of an invitation. In an interview with Radio Times, he explained that he has eliminated all potential distractions to focus on studying the script thoroughly.
Despite the stringent measures, Don is determined to impress the showrunners and reassure those who selected him for the role that they made the right choice. He said: "It's been a real pleasure filming such a beloved series alongside the hardworking cast and crew." Recently on ITV's Lorraine, Don announced that shooting for the 15th season will begin in April, accompanied by his co-star Shantol Jackson.
Discussing his upcoming journey back to Guadalupe, he said: "Unfortunately, it is about April time, end of April." Don, responding to Shantol's curiosity about why he labelled the return as unfortunate, clarified with a chuckle that he "just meant for the people I am going to leave".
