Death in Paradise has unveiled the guest stars for its Christmas special, with a familiar face making a comeback to Saint Marie. Jim Howick (Ghosts), Angela Griffin (The Wives), Marcus Brigstocke (The Unbelievable Truth), Steven Hartley (Happy Valley), Elizabeth Carling (Hotel Portofino), Michael Salami (Supacell) and Dex Lee (Doctors) will all be spending their Christmas in the Caribbean as they feature in this year's festive episode of Death in Paradise. They'll be joining new Detective Inspector Don Gilet in his debut role as DI Mervin Wilson, along with series regulars Don Warrington as Commissioner Selwyn Patterson, Shantol Jackson as DS Naomi Thomas, Ginny Holder as Officer Darlene Curtis, Danny John-Jules as Officer Dwayne Myers and Elizabeth Bourgine as Catherine Bordey in the BBC's Caribbean crime drama's holiday special.

The episode will also see Dwayne accompanied by his father, Nelson, portrayed by Ram John Holder, who is set to return to the BBC series. The synopsis for the festive episode reads: "We're back on the beautiful island of Saint Marie, and this time with a new detective inspector in tow. Londoner Mervin Wilson ruffles some feathers as he clashes with the island's way of life," reports the Express .

"But he quickly sinks his teeth into one of the team's most puzzling murder cases yet: three men, all unconnected apart from the fact that they're dressed as Santa Claus and seemingly all shot with the exact same gun at the exact same time. "As Mervin wrangles this impossible murder, his colleagues struggle with their new boss's unusual working methods. And Dwayne's Christmas with his father doesn't exactly go to plan.

." Filmed on the picturesque French Caribbean Island of Guadeloupe, the Death in Paradise Christmas Special will be succeeded by a brand-new series in 2025. Viewers can once again look forward to the perfect mix of thrilling escapism, perplexing mysteries, and tantalising plot twists set against a beautiful sun-soaked Caribbean backdrop.

Nelson last graced Death in Paradise when Ardal O'Hanlon portrayed lead detective Jack Mooney. However, Nelson and his son Dwayne departed the island together to mend their relationship. Dwayne made an appearance in the final episode of the latest series, which saw Neville Parker (Ralf Little) and Florence Cassell (Josephine Jobert) leave.

Dwayne bid his colleagues farewell as they sailed into the sunset together. Following Ralf's surprising exit, BBC chiefs confirmed Don Gilet would be stepping into his shoes, and filming with the new DI is currently in progress. Death in Paradise is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
