Sally Nugent and Jon Kay were back to front BBC Breakfast on Monday.

BBC Breakfast's Sally Nugent sparked concern on Monday morning after she randomly left her co-star Jon Kay to present alone in the studio. At 7.15 am, the duo sat on the red sofa together, however, after the show played a pre-recorded segment about a heartbreaking story, when they returned to the studio, Sally was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, Jon was joined by BBC Breakfast correspondent Hayley Hassall to discuss the tragic story even further. Jon then proceeded to present the show solo before Sally later appeared via video link. He said: "Now if you like, a jigsaw.

The UK's first Federation-approved puzzling championships took place over the weekend. "People from across the world battling to complete 500-piece bottles as quickly as possible, and we have the champion with us in Salford this morning. Sally is with her.

" Earlier on in the programme, Sally suffered a blunder as she struggled to get her words out when speaking about the Olivier Awards - and it didn't go unnoticed by viewers. When speaking about Imelda Staunton, Sally got the number of awards she had won wrong. One eagle-eyed viewer also noticed that Sally had disappeared from the screen, leaving Jon to host alone.

One concerned viewer asked on X: "What is up with Sally Nugent on #BBCBreakfast today? She can barely get her words out and announced earlier that Alan Shearer had donated the “proceedings” from his testimonial to charity." Another replied: "And now it looks like she’s done a runner." BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
