Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl admits to being “torn” on the new UCL format but is now excited by the “different feeling”

As all new things are, the new UEFA Champions League format is highly controversial. How much of the trepidation comes from the changes made that seem to benefit just the big clubs or the unfamiliarity of it all comes (or other reasons) comes down to the individual. For Bayern Munich ’s board member for sport Max Eberl, it was the latter that truly concerned him.

Speaking on Sport1’s Doppelpass, as captured by @iMiaSanMia , Eberl had this to say: “I’m excited, I was a bit torn, but I’ve been excited since the draw. It’s a different feeling, you’re playing against eight opponents - others are playing against completely different opponents. It’ll be exciting until the last matchday.

In the past, the top two teams were usually decided after four games.” That is what it comes down to, in the end. Everybody wants a more unpredictable, exciting group phase (though how much this new format will be able to provide this is currently under scrutiny) but Bayern’s goal will be reaching the Champions League Finale Dahoam in Munich.
