Hailed as the two biggest German talents for years now, Bayern Munich ’s Jamal Musiala and Bayer Leverkusen’s Florian Wirtz are certainly living up to the billing at the moment, tearing the Bundesliga to shreds. But it is their excellent understanding on and off the pitch for Germany that is perhaps a boon few expected to develop so quickly. Indeed, despite limited game time together, the duo have clearly developed an excellent chemistry.

“We always have a lot of fun together, we combine a lot. We try to move around the pitch and swap positions. I usually try to be close to him,” Musiala mused when asked about playing with Wirtz, via @iMiaSanMia .

“If I see him dribbling past his opponent, I go towards the penalty box. We talk a lot on the pitch. About where we have space to combine, whether we need to change something, switch sides or something like that.

We just have a good relationship.” Inevitably, this led to Musiala being asked if he would like Wirtz to join Bayern. “That’s his business,” Musiala answered simply.

“But I’m always happy to share the pitch with him.” So what about his own future in Munich? Are contract talks going to go well after Christmas? “Let’s hope so! The talks are ongoing, I can’t say more than that.” There were always questions about Musiala and Wirtz’s ability play together, considering that they both prefer the central areas of the pitch.

An excellent understanding is key to resolving this conflict, however, and it seems that such an understanding is in place..
