Home | Batohi to review decision to withdraw charges against Kodwa Former Sports Minister Zizi Kodwa’s legal woes may not be over just yet amid indications that the National Director of Public Prosecutions (NDPP), Shamila Batohi plans to review the decision. The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Andrew Chauke earlier announced their decision to withdraw charges against the former minister after Kodwa and his co-accused, ex EOH Executive, Jehan Mackay submitted representations. The withdrawal of the charges against Kodwa do not signal an acquittal and this has been made clear in the statement of the NPA posted on social media platform “X”.

It says the Directorate of Priority Crimes Investigation (DPCI) has written to Batohi requesting a review of the decision by the DPP. Kodwa was accused of receiving bribes worth R1.7 million from Mackay in exchange for government tenders.

Batohi, as the National Director of Public Prosecutions, can review the decision to withdraw the charges against Kodwa and Mackay in terms of Section 179 Subsection (5)(d) of the Constitution which grants her such powers. The prosecuting body says the NDPP will communicate her decision after the review. SABC © 2024.
