Not hitting a shot from the field in the final three minutes, East Texas Baptist University allowed Hendrix College back in the game as the Warriors overcame a large deficit to take away the win from the Tigers, 65-64. ETBU is now 0-5 on the year. ETBU had an 18-point lead, 58-40, with nine minutes to go in the game when Hendrix slowly crept back in.
Over those nine minutes, Hendrix outscored ETBU, 25-6, forcing 10 turnovers. Hendrix took their only lead on the winning three-pointer with three seconds left. ETBU's last chance shot went in, but as the buzzer went off, the ball was still in the hand as Hendrix took the win.
Michael Roberts led the team with 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting, producing nine rebounds and four blocked shots. Jason Justice followed with 11 points as Joshua R Davis, Nikolas Morin, and Nathan Fleming added seven points and Mason Williams six. ETBU shot 49%, making 33% of their three-pointers, and was 6-of-11 from the line (54%).
Hendrix made 41% of their shots, was 24% from three-point range (6-of-25), and 11-of-19 from the free throw line. All six of their three-pointers were made in the second half after going 0-for-12 in the first half. Hendrix outrebounded ETBU, 34-28, and forced 17 turnovers.
The first half belonged to ETBU as they shot 59% and mad four three pointers (44%). ETBU took a 15-2 lead in the first five minutes after a 2-2 tie to start the game. With 10:08 left, Davis hit a jumper for a 17-point lead, 24-7.
Hendrix cut the lead to 11, 29-18 (4:39), but ETBU pushed the lead back to 17, 39-22, with 1:36 left in the half on a Williams three-pointer. At the half, Hendrix cut the lead to 13, 39-26. ETBU will play on Friday, Nov.
22, at 8 p.m. against Southwestern University.
