BARSTOW, Calif. (VVNG.com) — On Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at approximately 3:42 A.
M., the Barstow Police Department’s K9 Officer conducted a routine traffic stop on a vehicle for a code violation near the intersection of Interstate 15 and Barstow Road. During the stop, K9 Bailey, the department’s trained narcotics detection dog, was deployed to assist in the investigation.
Bailey alerted the officer to the presence of illegal narcotics in the vehicle, leading to a thorough search. The search yielded approximately 86,000 Fentanyl pills, weighing around 20 pounds. This substantial discovery underscores the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the area.
The driver, identified as 27-year-old Jesus Casteneda , and the passenger, 21-year-old Daniel Quevodo , both residents of Phoenix, AZ, were arrested without incident. They have since been booked at the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department Jail in Barstow on charges of possession of a controlled substance for sale and transportation of a controlled substance for sale under H&S 11351(a) and H&S 11352, respectively. K9 Bailey’s role in this operation highlights the valuable contributions of police dogs in assisting with drug enforcement efforts.
