Ventura County Sheriff's personnel brought a SWAT team, K-9 police dog and other resources to a Moorpark apartment complex Wednesday after a resident barricaded himself during eviction proceedings, authorities said. The incident continued into the late afternoon, with sheriff's officials advising residents to avoid the area around South Moorpark Avenue and Majestic Court due to police activity at the Avery Apartments. The sheriff's office is contracted to provide police services in Moorpark.

Other residents had all exited the unit, said sheriff's Capt. Carl Patterson, but one person remained inside. As of late afternoon, the agency continued to try to draw the man out of the unit.

Radio traffic indicated windows had been broken and the man had several tools on hand that could serve as potential weapons. Last week, a west of Moorpark brought a large law enforcement response and last hours when a man reportedly fired shots and turned on propane tanks in the residence. He was later taken into custody and charged with two counts of attempted murder.
