SHOULDER to shoulder the Queen of Paradise Orchestra students stood full of confidence as they played a beautiful set for one of world’s most influential leaders; His Holiness Pope Francis. The Holy Trinity School which the orchestra is part of is a missionary school that is serving thousands of children from the West Coast villages of Vanimo. Pope Francis was happy with the performance and posed for a picture with the students.

Meanwhile, outside the classoom hundreds of people stood by eager to catch a glimpse of the Holy Father. One by one the sons and daughters of Lido, Waromo, Yako, Musu and Wutung presented gifts to Pope Francis asking for his blessing in return. Pope Francis later spent a few minutes with the missionaries of the Holy Trinity School and then departed for Port Moresby.

His departure from Baro left many people emotional. Pope Francis spent a total of three hours in Vanimo town. He landed at 2:40 pm, several minutes ahead of schedule and left after his visit to Baro.
