Pune: Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Sunday said Baramati should get a different MLA than him. "The product does not get value at the place where it grows. Baramati should get a different MLA.

Then you can compare my works from 1991 to 2024 with others' works," Ajit Pawar said in a party workers' meeting in Baramati. Standing Baramati MLA Ajit Pawar indirectly referred to the defeat of his wife, Sunetra Pawar , in the Lok Sabha elections and said, "Sometimes, I think Baramati people can give different results despite doing so much work. I also think I have had enough.

Nearly 33-34 years have passed (I am representing Baramati). I am 65 years old now and satisfied with whatever I have got," he said. Ajit Pawar had said last month that fielding his wife, Sunetra, from Baramati against his cousin, Supriya Sule, was a mistake and he regretted it.

Sule retained the seat with a victory margin of over 1.5 lakh votes. The deputy chief minister said Baramati was getting many development projects without demanding them because of his efforts.

Water supply projects are getting sanctioned and roads are getting developed on a large scale. Even a medical college and an Ayurveda college had been constructed in his constituency, Ajit Pawar said. He said the upcoming assembly election was very important not only for the state, but also for Baramati.

"The voters should consider this fact. There were many workers who had reached out to the party only with selfish intentions," he said. Ajit Pawar urged women not to rely on any unauthorised private agents or people, who are claiming that they can help women get benefits of the Ladki Bahin scheme.

"The beneficiaries should be vigilant while applying for the programme. The govt has created awareness about it and the process to avail its benefits. Application facilities have been made available at offices like anganwadi.

They will help women who want to be a part of this programme. Nobody should fall prey to promises of private agencies and approach them to avail the scheme's benefits," he said. Ajit Pawar, also the state finance minister, said an insurance scheme would be introduced to safeguard people's savings in cooperative credit societies.

Fixed deposits up to Rs5 lakh can be insured. He also mentioned about the new market projects at different locations in Baramati and said land acquisition for them was on the cards. New animal markets would also be established, he added.
