Ajmer: One more Bangladeshi citizen living illegally in Ajmer was detained by the city police with the help of its CID branch Friday, police said. Forty-year-old Mohammad Shaheed is the 21st illegal Bangladeshi national detained in the city's dargah region in the last six months, said officials. Shaheed had been living in India for about the last 23 years, the last ten years in Ajmer, said the officials.
Like the other detained before him in recent months, he also had come to India from Bangladesh by crossing the border illegally, they said. Police teams have been combing Jaliyan Kabristan, Andarkot, the foothills of Taragahgarh, Bade Peer ki Dargah, Sigal Khamba and other areas in the dargah region to identify Bangladeshis residing illegally in the region. On April 10, the police team detained about 14 people of itinerant groups from various parts of Ajmer and started an investigation.
During this process, Mohammad Shaheed was found to be a suspect and was therefore called again Friday. He admitted during interrogation that he is a native of Saidpur district in Bangladesh and had come to India about 23 years ago by crossing the hilly border on foot illegally and spent some time in West Bengal as a beggar. Police said Shaheed confessed that he later moved to Delhi and lived there before coming to Ajmer by train about ten years ago.
He said he has since been living in areas close to the dargah. The process of deporting Shaheed is on, said a senior police official..
