A man was over the legal drink-drive limit when police found his Range Rover on its roof. Tractor driver Kevin Ruff was banned from the roads for 18 months and ordered to pay £1,300 when he appeared in court on Wednesday (April 9). The 40-year-old Dawsmere resident pleaded guilty to drink driving following the incident at Long Sutton on March 22.
“Police found the defendant’s Range Rover on its roof at Hospital Drove,” prosecutor Turan Sunat told Boston Magistrates’ Court. Ruff, of Durham’s Road, gave a reading of 61 micrograms per 100ml of breath. The legal limit is 35mcg.
In defence, Justin Atkinson said his client would be able to keep his job. “This causes a problem with his employment,” he said. “However, he has spoken to his employer who said he would be able to employ him in the yard for a period.
“He’s hoping he can do that until he gets his licence back.” Mr Atkinson added Ruff - who ‘doesn’t recall’ the incident after being ‘dazed’ when his airbag went off -was ‘fully co-operative’ with the police investigation. “When police arrived they asked him of he’d consumed alcohol and he said ‘yes’.
He pleaded guilty at the first opportunity,” he added. Ruff’s driving ban can be reduced by 18 weeks if he completes a drink driver rehabilitation course. He was fined £864 and ordered to pay a £364 victim surcharge plus £85 costs, to be paid in full within 28 days.
