The winner of this year's Ballon d'Or will be announced at a glitzy ceremony in Paris on Monday evening. For the first time in 21 years, neither Cristiano Ronaldo nor Lionel Messi have been nominated for the prestigious award in the men’s category. Vinicius Junior is the big favourite to win the Ballon d'Or after helping Real Madrid to win La Liga and the Champions League last season.
If he claims the top prize, he will become the first Brazilian player since 2007 to be crowned the best footballer in the world. Jude Bellingham is also up for the coveted gong after an incredible breakthrough season at Real Madrid, while Rodri will have high hopes of winning it after helping Manchester City and Spain to achieve success in the Premier League and at the Euros. But how much will the winner get paid? Express Sport takes a look.
.. Ballon d'Or prize money Players are not directly paid for winning the Ballon d'Or, which brings a huge amount of prestige but no prize money.
However, some players will be entitled to bonus payments from their clubs or sponsors for achieving the feat. For example, it was reported in Spain that Luka Modric was paid €800,000 (£666,864) by boot sponsors Nike when he won the Ballon d'Or in 2018. Vinicius is thought to have a lucrative Ballon d'Or bonus in his Real Madrid contract, with Cadena SER reporting that he will receive €1million (£833,515) if he scoops this year's prize.
How to watch Ballon d'Or ceremony The gala in Paris will not be shown on TV anywhere in the UK, but viewers can still watch all the action for free on YouTube by heading to the L’Equipe channel.
