The Ballets de Monte-Carlo, under the artistic direction of Jean-Christophe Maillot, is set to present an impressive lineup for the upcoming season, featuring 15 performances. Highlights include three world premieres and a new entry into the company’s renowned repertoire. While dazzling audiences in Monaco, the company’s 50 dancers will also embark on a global tour, showcasing the Principality’s artistic excellence across Europe, Mexico, China, and Cuba.
The season will kick off with the Monaco Dance Forum from December 11 to 18, 2024. A prestigious event that will host an array of internationally acclaimed performances, including Peeping Tom’s Dyptich , Israel Galván’s La Edad de Oro , Ohad Naharin’s Last Work with the Staatsballet Wiesbaden, and Autodance and Vers un pays sage by Sharon Eyal and Jean-Christophe Maillot with Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo. Other notable performances include the Akram Khan Company’s Chooto Desh , La Cie Eugénie Andrin’s Dance Marathon , and Jo Strømgren Kompani’s Made in Oslo .
The year will close with Jean-Christophe Maillot’s The Taming of the Shrew , performed from December 29, 2024, to January 4, 2025, at the Grimaldi Forum. This ballet, accompanied by the Monte-Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, promises to spotlight the company’s rising stars. Spring 2025 will see a focus on new creations, including three world premieres.
Marco Goecke’s Transfigured Night will debut at the Grimaldi Forum from April 23 to 27, followed by a remounting of George Balanchine’s The Four Temperaments by renowned Balanchine dancer Patricia Neary. Additionally, Alexei Ratmansky’s Wartime Elegy will join the company’s repertoire. The season will conclude with the Princess Grace Academy’s traditional Gala on June 20 and 21, 2025, at the Salle Garnier of the Monte-Carlo Opera.
The Gala will also feature two new creations for Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo, one by the Kor’sia Company and another by Slovak choreographer Lukáš Timulak, further enhancing the company’s legacy of innovation and artistry. Featured image courtesy of the Ballets de Monte-Carlo.
