First announced with a 2025 release window back in November last year, the patch has undergone stress test updates for some time but is now ready to be released tomorrow. According to its announcement blog post , the massive patch will introduce new features like a photo mode and cross-play, alongside the 12 additional subclasses listed below, along with their associated starter class: College of Glamour (Bard) Path of Giants (Barbarian) Death Domain (Cleric) Circle of Stars (Druid) Oath of the Crown (Paladin) Arcane Archer (Fighter) Drunken Master (Monk) Swarmkeeper (Ranger) Swashbuckler (Rogue) Shadow Magic (Sorcerer) Hexblade (Warlock) Bladesinging (Wizard) These classes bring a wealth of unique skills and gameplay mechanics, allowing even seasoned players to create and customise builds for a fresh gameplay experience.

To make the most out of the new flashy combat animations, Photo Mode will allow players to capture practically any shot they desire, able to customise and edit the snapshots with a range of tools depending on whether the feature is used during exploration, combat, dialogue or even cinematic scenes. Finally, cross-play will enable multiplayer gameplay across all its platforms, including Mac, together with full cross-platform progression for easy transition. Upon launch, players can invite their friends to join cross-play lobbies directly or find available multiplayer lobbies with friends using the Larian Network.

As the final major update for the game, Patch 8 marks the end of Baldur’s Gate 3’s remarkably successful journey, with the game not only launching to critical acclaim and commercial success but continuing to sell strongly till this day and snagging a host of awards along the way. This also marks Larian Studio’s departure from the IP as they focus on an original title , although it might not be the end of the Baldur’s Gate franchise, as Hasbro has previously expressed interest in building a sequel .
