On Tuesday, Mindaugas Balčiūnas was elected President of the Lithuanian Basketball Federation (LKF). Balčiūnas defeated Robertas Javtokas, a former captain of the Lithuanian men’s national basketball team. In a secret ballot, 84 members of the LKF voted for Balčiūnas, 63 for Javtokas, and one ballot paper was spoiled.
“Dear colleagues, I am deeply touched and elated. It is a huge task to prove your trust, and from tomorrow, we start implementing the programme I have presented,” said the new LKF president. Balčiūnas has been serving as the secretary general of the LKF since 2021 when Vydas Gedvilas was elected president of the federation.
Dominykas Domarkas, the director of the Lithuanian Professional Basketball Players Association, will be entrusted with the position of secretary general of the LKF under Balčiūnas’ presidency. Weekly newsletter every Friday.
