Cooking a baked potato can take upwards of 45 minutes in the oven which can put you off making them. Luckily, you can get a “tasty” baked potato in just minutes using one food expert’s top tip, as well as getting the texture right every time. Taking to her TikTok page Culinary Scientist Chef , Jessica Gavin has shared a video where she claims that a jacket potato can be cooked in three to seven minutes in the microwave.
The caption reads: “Ready to enjoy a tasty baked potato? Here’s how to cook it in the microwave.” She started off the video saying: “What’s the quickest way to make a baked potato? Use the microwave! “This is a great technique to use, especially if you’re just making one or two and you don’t have a lot of time.” For this method, start by making around eight holes on the surface of the potato with a fork - this will prevent it from exploding in the microwave.
Next, brush the surface with a little bit of olive oil which will prevent the potato from drying out and give it a little more flavour. Finish off by seasoning the potato with salt. Jessica pointed out: “It’s important to cook one potato at a time for even cooking.
” She recommended: “Start by cooing it for five minutes on high setting.” Then cook in one-minute intervals until the centre of the potato pierces easily with a fork. The chef noted that the cooking time should be around seven minutes, of course, this is dependant on the size of your potato.
For those after a crispier skin on their baked potatoes, they can always throw them into the air fryer for five to 10 minutes. Baked potatoes are a great pairing for so many dinners or they can be the main event. Plus, everyone can fix and top their microwave-baked potato just as they please, so they work well for families with different tastes (aka picky eaters).
