Trade a boring bowl of porridge for something more interesting and equally nutritious. You can even cook the oats in an air fryer.

Baked goods are often sweet and delicious, and baked oats are no exception. Made with a handful of nutritious ingredients to make a complete meal, the dish is warming and filling with little effort. Plus, it’s incredibly versatile, with endless flavour possibilities.

A recipe shared by BBC Good Food has been branded “delicious and easy to make” by Good Food members. They say the baked oats can be blended or left whole as they are “just as good chunky.” With just five core ingredients, this baked oats formula couldn’t be easier to follow.

The recipe creator, Anna Glover, says the oats can be baked in an oven for 25 minutes or 10 minutes in an air fryer. Fans of the recipe have rated it an average of four out of five stars with 37 ratings. Some shared minor tweaks they recommend following when making the delicious oats.

One recommended adding a pinch of salt and twice as much maple syrup. Another suggestion is to substitute the banana for full-fat yoghurt and add a splash of milk. As for flavour combinations, baked oats fans opted for apricots, strawberries and chocolate chips.

Another person suggests blending chia seeds into the mixture along with some extra banana. Ingredients 100g porridge oats One tsp baking powder One banana, peeled and chopped One tbsp maple syrup or honey Two eggs Pinch of mixed spice or ground cinnamon 100g chocolate chips Blueberries or raspberries, plus extra to serve Flavourless oil for the ramekins Preheat the oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4 for oven-baked oats. Place the oats in a blender and pulse until they resemble flour.

If you prefer, you can keep them a little more chunky. Add the baking powder, chopped banana, maple syrup or honey, eggs, mixed spice, or cinnamon to the blender and blitz until smooth. Lastly, stir in the chocolate chips or berries.

If using an air fryer rather than an oven, heat the air fryer to 180C for four minutes. Four heat-proof ramekins are safe for air fryer use. Lightly oil the ramekins, then divide the batter between them.

Bake the oat mixture for eight to 10 minutes in the air fryer or 20 to 25 minutes in the oven until well risen and the baked oats spring back when lightly pressed. Finally, scatter with more chocolate chips or berries before serving - they will melt into the top for a delicious melded flavour. Once cooked, the oats will last in the fridge for three to four days and could also be frozen.

They can be reheated in an oven or microwave..
