The biggest function was held at Canal Head here where as usual annual Baisakhi fair (mela) is held every year in which a large number of people drawn from different parts of the Jammu region participated from early in the morning.
The people including men, women and children attired in colourful costumes attended the festival at Canal Head.Click here to watch videoPeople had installed various stalls of confectionaries, sweets, toys, utensils, sports items, cosmetics etc in the fair and the people were attracted to them. The children were busy in enjoying fun and folic while some were busy in paying games and purchasing toys, sweets and confectionery items.
The mela provided platform to the artists, vendors and performers to showcase their talent and heritage.The Dogra artists were seen performing the traditional dance and Bhangra on beats of drums which was the great attraction of people.There was heavy rush on Canal Head and despite the scorching heat the people were enjoying the celebrations.
The Baisakhi is the beginning of the Vikrami Calander but it has a great significance for the farmers as on this day the harvesting of Rabi crop begins. The day has another great significance as on this day the Great Sikh Guru, Guru Gobindh Singh Ji Maharaj had laid foundation of Khalsa Panth and Panch Piaras.At Canal Head the mela was inaugurated by MLA Jammu West and senior BJP leader, Yudhvir Sethi along with president, Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Arun Gupta and Mahant Rajesh Bittu.
The inauguration function was also attended by senior BJP leader and former Minister, Priya Sethi, CCI office bearers, Anil Gupta, Rajeev Gupta, Rajesh Gupta and Rinku, ex Corporator, Anil Gupta, members of Mela Committee , Vishal Malhotra, Parvez Malik, Kartar Chand, Suraj Sharma, Vinod Gupta, Rajesh Dogra, Sawan Singh,Sunil Gupta and Vinay Bhasin.The Baisakhi was also celebrated with great enthusiasm at Samba, Kathua, Udhampur and other towns of Jammu division.In Udhampur the vibrant spirit of Baisakhi came alive at Devika Ghat, Nainsoo, as the historic Navarash Baisakhi Mela was celebrated with great enthusiasm and community participation.
MLA Udhampur-East, Ranbir Singh Pathania, graced the occasion and underscored the festival’s profound religious, cultural and historiographical significance, particularly in Northern India.Click here to watch videoThe ancient Aap Shambhu Mandir at Nainsoo, situated on the sacred banks of Devika, has been a traditional host of the Baisakhi mela since times immemorial.The District Administration Samba, in collaboration with the Jammu & Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages and the Civil Society Samba, organized a grand Baisakhi Mela at the historic Samba Fort today.
The event was celebrated under the impactful theme “Say No to Drugs”, promoting a message of a healthy, drug-free and clean society.The celebrations saw enthusiastic participation from children, vibrant cultural performances including traditional dances and folk music.Baisakhi was also celebrated with traditional enthusiasm and charm at Kathua town.
A grand Baisakhi mela was held at Ramleela Ground Kathua in which hundreds of people participated. The mela was also graced by MLA Udhampur, Bharat Bushan.On the occasion, of Baisakhi, a Maha Yagya was performed at Swami Mahesh Bharti Ashram, Muthi Roopnagar where large number of devotees participated.
During the function Social Reforms and Charitable Organisation in collaboration with Dabur India Ltd distributed juice packs among the devotees.
