1 2 Prayagraj: The horticulture department is trying that people can enjoy good quality mangoes this summer season, which is not only tastier but also has a better shiny look. To achieve this, efforts are being made to enhance the production and quality of the fruit by adopting bagging technology . As a pilot project, this technology has reached the fruit belt areas of Malihabad in Lucknow and Pratapgarh last year.

Encouraged by the results, the govt is now preparing to implement it in the entire state, including more areas of Prayagraj, Pratapgarh, and Kaushambi of Prayagraj division. Mango gardening is done in the four districts of the division on about 2,100 hectares of land, and about 49,000 metric tonnes of mango is produced every year. However due to the insects, birds, other parasites and weather, the crop gets destroyed.

Fruit bagging technology is the solution to this problem. To bring gardeners closer to it, the horticulture department conducted an experiment in the year 2023-24. About 20,000 fruit bags were distributed to three gardeners in Kunda of Pratapgarh of Prayagraj division.

Similarly, this pilot project was also run in Malihabad of Lucknow division. It was seen that mangoes in fruit bags are better than normal fruits. Encouraged by the results of the trial, the govt now wants to extend it to all 75 districts of the state.

For this, a proposal has been sent to the central govt. Mango orchard owner Sanjay Singh of Kunda in Pratapgarh said that he was given around 10,000 bags last year, which were installed in about 60 trees.
