An unusual name, indeed, for a band – Bachi and Dedo – but, I’m told, this seven-piece outfit, hailing from Moratuwa, has been making a significant impact on the local music scene. The band members are all experienced musicians, led by Bachi Sittamige, who performed with the Golden Chimes for three years, in the Nineties, before going overseas. Reports indicate that his ability to blend different musical styles has been widely appreciated and that the band’s live performances have been captivating audiences.

With deep roots in the music field, Bachi and Dedo have earned recognition for their exceptional contributions. Bachi, a key member of the band, is a well-known musician in the scene here, and has been associated with renowned artistes and bands, including Manilal and Upekka, Golden Chimes, Ecstasy, and Blue Shadows, showcasing his skills as a lead guitarist. Recently, the band performed three songs of the legendary Clarence Wijewardena, as a tribute to him, and their effort was successfully launched on their YouTube channel.



Bachi and Dedo are now set to perform at a concert, at the Buddhist Hall, in Moratuwa, on 31st May, 2025, and they say they are working on giving music lovers an unforgettable experience at this particular event. For added variety, they will also be featuring two legends in the music field in order to create a vibrant and nostalgic atmosphere. Scheduled to do the needful with Bachi and Dedo are Lankika Perera of Golden Chimes fame, and the entertainer/singer, who continues to be a drawcard wherever he performs – Sohan Weerasinghe.

Sankalpa De Mel will be in charge of the evening’s proceedings, while the choreography will be by Sanka and Solar Heat. According to Lankika Perera, music lovers can look forward to a night filled with timeless hits, from the ’70s,’80s, and the ’90s, as Bachi and Dedo pay tribute to Sri Lanka’s legendary musicians, and she added that as a band from Moratuwa, a town known for its rich musical heritage, they continue to uphold its legacy with pride. “This event will be a special celebration of music, making it a must-to-attend for all music lovers,” says Lankika.
