KANNUR: A Kannur native was taken into custody over the suicide of his wife the other day. Jinesh was taken into custody over the death of his wife, Sneha, a native of Payam in Kannur. Police doubt that recurring domestic abuse led the young woman to end her life.
A suicide note has also been found. The suicide note mentions constant torture from the in-laws and Jinesh over dowry demands. The relatives had earlier filed a complaint with police, but the case was settled in court.
However, on Monday, the young woman was found dead at her house. Jinesh is alleged to have tortured Sneha over her skin colour. Jinesh used to taunt her, saying that the baby born to them was fair-looking while Sneha had a darker tone.
Citing this, Jinesh continued to physically abuse his wife, saying that the child was not his. On the 15th of this month, the couple fought over the issue, and later, Jinesh dropped his wife at her residence. On Monday, Jinesh had a long phone call with Sneha after which she shut her room and hanged herself.
She was found dead at around 6:30 pm. Following this, Sneha's family filed a complaint against Jinesh. Sneha and Jinesh got married in January 2020.
It took barely a month for issues to come up between them, which even escalated to police cases. Sneha’s parents had to take her home several times following a tussle between the couple. Jinesh is a lorry driver and their child is just three years old.
