Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan devising roadmap for new solar energy projects (PHOTO)

Themeetings with leading global energy companies such as TotalEnergies, Czech Engineering, Nobel Energy, Masdar, ACWA Power,China Energy, and Notus are being held in Nakhchivan to implementprojects in the field of solar energy, and a roadmap is beingdeveloped in this regard, Director of Nakhchivan Solar StationsFarid Safarov told According to him, all these energy investments are aimed atdeveloping the sector of renewable and alternative energysources. He noted that the first Khalkhal solar power plant with acapacity of 22 megawatts was built in Nakhchivan in 2015. “This plant is the second largest HPP in the South Caucasus andin the country in terms of generating capacity after the Garadaghsolar power plant with a capacity of 230 megawatts.

It generates 30million kWh of energy per year. Khalkhal accounts for 20 percent ofthe production capacity of alternative and renewable energysources. A total of 86,383 solar panels have been installed on anarea of 36 ha," he added.



Presently, four hydroelectric power plants are operating inNakhchivan: Khalkhal, Sharur, Kengerli, and Julfa wind-solar hybridpower plants. "In fact, the energy giants' interest in Nakhchivan is since ithas a lot of sunny days," Safarov noted..
