Aydin Safikhanli,Head of the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman)of Azerbaijan, attended the General Assembly of the EuropeanNetwork of National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI) in Brusselsand participated in a seminar titled "The Role and Functions ofNational Human Rights Institutions in Armed Conflicts," Trend reports. Safikhanli highlighted Armenia's severe breaches ofinternational law and humanitarian law during its 30-yearoccupation of Azerbaijani territories.
He discussed Armenia's "mineterror," noting that landmines planted on Azerbaijani land pose asignificant threat to civilian life and hinder the return of formerinternally displaced persons. Additionally, he underscored thatapproximately 4,000 Azerbaijanis went missing during the firstKarabakh war, with their whereabouts still unknown. The head of the office also mentioned that factual reports onthe aftermath of Armenian aggression, compiled by the Ombudsman'soffice, have been submitted to international organizations, foreignombudsmen, and national human rights institutions.
