Axar Patel recalls MS Dhoni once became his astrologer, advising him to perform rituals to change his luck Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Axar Patel has recalled an incident from earlier in his career when former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni became his astrologer and gave him advice to get some ‘rituals’ done to turn around his misfortune. Axar spoke about the incident in an interview with DC, a clip of which was posted on social media on April 4, the eve of DC’s match against CSK in IPL 2025. In the post, Axar was asked about an old photo of them sitting together on the sidelines of an IPL season in their team’s kits.
“In his photo, he’s telling me that my planets are moving about here and there. You either get a good ball or something else happens. Vo yahi bol rahe the ki tu ek kaam kar, kuch vidhi karvale (So here he was suggesting me to get some rituals done to correct it)," Axar says in the video.
The all-rounder, who made his white-ball debuts in 2014-15 when Dhoni was the full-time captain, said the legendary wicketkeeper has played a role in his success over the years. “I have a very close relationship with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni). When he was the captain of the Indian cricket team, I used to share my thoughts with him.
But, you know after the T20 World Cup and the Champions Trophy, I got his message. And even before that, I mean during the 2021 World Cup, when he came as a mentor then also I talked to him. I would speak to him about my mindset and now you can see the results.
So whatever I’ve achieved after that, the credit goes to Mahi bhai as well for the changes that can be seen," Axar added. Axar was promoted to DC’s captaincy in IPL 2025. The franchise have done quite well so far under him, winning their first two matches and holding onto the second spot in the points table.
