Peace lilies, known for their captivating white blooms, can be a bit of a challenge to nurture at home. As April ushers in the prime time for these plants to flourish, an expert has revealed a common blunder that many owners make which could prevent their peace lilies from blooming. David Denyer, a seasoned florist with Eflorist, said: "Most people make one simple mistake that stops their peace lily from blooming, but the fix is easier than you think.
" The secret apparently lies in the plant's placement within your living space. The key issue, as explained by the flower specialist, is the amount of light peace lilies receive. Excessive direct sunlight can damage the leaves, while insufficient light will keep them from flowering altogether, reports the Express .
David said: "If your peace lily has leaves and no blooms, it probably needs a brighter spot - just make sure it's in indirect light. A great location is near an east-facing window where it gets soft morning sun but is shielded from harsh afternoon rays." He emphasizes that the location of your peace lily can mean the difference between a plant that thrives and one that merely survives.
Another critical element for peace lilies, which hail from tropical regions, is humidity; they don't fare well in dry environments. David said: "I always recommend misting them regularly or keeping them in naturally humid spaces like bathrooms or kitchens. And when it comes to watering, the key is balance.
Overwatering is just as damaging as underwatering. "The best rule? Wait until the top inch of soil feels dry, then water thoroughly. If the leaves are drooping, that's your plant telling you it's thirsty; but don't wait until the leaves are completely limp.
" Looking to elevate the vitality of your peace lily? Introducing slow-release fertilizer granules or organic nourishments such as banana skins or coffee grounds may do the trick. Just a couple of tablespoons of dried coffee grounds distributed around the soil at the foot of the lily, followed by your usual watering routine, could greatly benefit your botanical buddy. David added: "Coffee grounds are packed with nitrogen, which helps keep the leaves healthy.
Leaves help feed the plant, so healthy leaves equals a healthy peace lily.".
