There is nothing better than an autumnal walk - and Bolton Ramblers have organised a number of walks set in some of the most picturesque places. The first walk, on Saturday, November 2, will see participants travel by coach to Cheshire to walk along the Gritstone Trail - 'some of the finest walking in Cheshire,' if the Ramblers are to be believed. Three different routes along the Gritstone Trail will be offered.
The 'A' walk, covering 11.5 miles, begins in Rushton Spencer, crossing fields, rivers, and woodland, with climbs up Winde Minn, Croker Hill, and Teggs Nose, before descending into the village of Sutton Lane Ends for refreshments. The 'B' walk, at 7.
2 miles, starts in Oakgrove, south of Macclesfield, and climbs steadily to the Gritstone Trail on Croker Hill, also ending in Sutton Lane Ends (with an optional summit of Teggs Nose en route). A gentler 'C' walk of five to six miles will also be offered, ending, like the other routes, in Sutton Lane Ends - where walkers will have time for refreshments before heading back to Bolton by coach. The coach will pick up walkers at the layby on the A6 near the Chequerbent roundabout, Westhoughton , at 7.
45am, and at the Bolton Lads & Girls Club on Spa Road at 8am. Seats on the coach are £15 per person, and can be booked by phoning 07788 736 006 or emailing [email protected].
uk. Walkers are advised to bring sturdy, weatherproof gear, and a packed lunch. The second trip is a remembrance walk.
The 'leisurely,' four-to-five mile walk will take place in the afternoon on Sunday, November 10, to Leadmines Clough and the Airmen's Memorial in Rivington, with a pause to remember the victims of all wars. There is no need to book a place on this walk. Participants are asked to meet at 2pm at the car park next to Rivington Primary School on Horrobin Lane, BL6 7SE, in appropriate clothing and boots.
