Perth’s Nat Barr and Ryan Daniels have been named among Australia’s favourite TV hosts according to specialist social media research. The Sunrise co-host and 7News sports presenter made SEO agency StudioHawk’s top 10 list ranking at number five and number six respectively. StudioHawk analysed average monthly search volumes and Instagram followers of more than 100 prominent Australian TV hosts to create the list.
The ranking was determined using a ‘popularity score’ formula that weighted Instagram followers at 70 per cent and search volumes at 30 per cent. ABC 7.30 host Sarah Ferguson emerged as Australia’s favourite TV host, surpassing household names like Barr and Karl Stefanovic with a perfect ‘popularity’ score of 100.
Edwina Bartholomew was second with a ‘popularity’ score of 55, followed closely by Karl Stefanovic at 52. Barr and Daniels ‘popularity scores’ came in at 42 and 41 respectively. StudioHawk head of marketing Joshua Poole said: “Australia’s TV hosts have achieved a celebrity-like status with their names regularly featured in news headlines.
Whether viewers adore them or switch channels, this new study provides a unique insight into the nation’s most popular TV personalities. “Sarah Ferguson is the clear leader, with the veteran and widely respected journalist turned anchor amassing over 750,000 Instagram followers over her decades-long career. Due to her following and revered career, she has achieved the highest ‘popularity score’, beating commercial TV giants like Edwina Bartholomew, Karl Stefanovic and Sarah Harris.
” With Barr rounding out the top five, the Bunbury-born is the most searched-for female TV host in the top ten and second highest overall, which could be due to opening up about her skin cancer diagnosis in June last year. A veteran at Seven Network, Barr transitioned from newsreader on Sunrise to co-host of the show in 2021. Despite having one of the highest average monthly search volumes, her Instagram following of 117,000 trails some of her peers.
When it came to top presenters in major cities across the country, former AFL player turned 9News sports presenter Matthew Pavlich was the favourite for Perth. Kellie Balaam Chloe Maher.
