One of Australia’s biggest dessert creators, Catherine Zhang, now has her own shop in Koreatown called Tu Cha where she’s slinging what may be the city’s fanciest sweets, alongside milk teas and boba. Zhang is best known for her desserts on Instagram and TikTok, where she posts with the handle @Catherine.Desserts , as well as for winning Zumbo’s Just Desserts , a cooking competition show on Netflix.

Zhang’s inventive desserts are the centerpiece at Tu Cha, and have already garnered early attention from LA food creators . The desserts are sculptural, with some resembling a fruit, white others take the form of a cube that would look at home in an art museum. They are so detailed that a passerby may think that the shop is just selling produce.

The My Man Go looks like an unpeeled mango, with an exterior color gradient from red to a soft green; the inside is filled with a slice of ripe, fresh mango, creme fraiche mango mousse, and hazelnut praline. The Citron is a whole lemon made out of chocolate, filled with passionfruit cremeaux and lemon yuzu. The Berry3 is a three-dimensional cube that looks like a space-age couch, and is filled with strawberry coulis, pistachio praline, and raspberry mousse, while the Dubai Matcha Dream Cake is heart-shaped and filled with matcha sponge, pistachio knafeh, and matcha mousse.

Alongside Zhang’s desserts, Tu Cha serves teas like brown sugar boba, taro milk, and an osmanthus oolong boba milk tea. For something more refreshing, try one of the tonics with yuzu, pineapple, or lychee. And while LA has no shortage of boba or dessert shops, Zhang’s unique sweets are sure to quickly leave a sweet mark on the city.

Tu Cha is located at 2968 W. Seventh Street, Los Angeles, CA 90005, and is open 12 p.m.
