Australia is reportedly planning to ban social media for children under age 16 to protect their mental health, misinformation, will introduce new regulations by the end of November 2024. This was announced by the Australian PM Anthony Albanese.

Australia's Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a ban on social media for children under 16 age to protect young people's mental health and a surge of misinformation. Albanese said that the firms involved in social media business would have to enforce the new regulations coming later in November 2024, or they would face potential fines. He explained that social media had been harming the kids and that the burden would be on the firms involved in demonstrating that their platforms could take reasonable steps to prevent access.
