Vision claiming to show a 2022 aircraft encounter above the South China Sea has been slammed by Australian MPs. The video shows a J-16 fighter jet intercept an Australian surveillance aircraft on what is said to have been a routine patrol of international airspace, the ABC reported. In video shared on Chinese state television as part of a Chinese army documentary, the pilot boasted how he was not afraid of a "strong enemy".

He also lamented the “propaganda” video “appears to describe Australia as an enemy and an opponent”, asserting that is not how the Australian government sees itself. Shadow defence minister Andrew Hastie said if the footage was genuine, it shows "highly dangerous" conduct.
