The Australian Consulate in Lae has a strong agricultural, education and the economic focus, which falls in line with the underlying theme of the annual Morobe Show. As a proud platinum sponsor of the 2024 Morobe Agriculture Show, the consualate is keen to support the cause on promoting agriculture, culture and sustainable industries in the province and Papua New Guinea, said Consul-General Mark Foxe. Mr Foxe said the show is a wonderful opportunity for them to showcase Australia’s key partnership programs.
He said Lae is very fortunate because it is home to the second Australian Diplomatic Mission, the other is the High Commission in Port Moresby. The Morobe Show is a very important part of the calendar here for the province and also for Lae and the Australian High Commission through the Consulate were pleased to take part in it. Mr Foxe said the consulate has a strong agricultural focus, education and economic focus, and that was what was hoped for, to get a lot more people visiting its booth over the two-day show.
The Australian Consul showcased a variety of programs that the Australian government provides here in the country. GrowPNG is one of the partners in conjunction with GrowAsia through the world economic forum and its targeting agricultural development in the Markham valley. The Australian Awards program is another key education program which Australia is very proud to be doing and it’s a good opportunity for people who have been through any of the programs to join the Australian alumni.
The Australian High Commission is encouraging a lot of people to come and do that. The other program is called the ACIAR, which is working very closely with the National Agriculture Research Institute (NARI), the Incentive Fund, the project with the Lae main market redevelopment ACIP, which is going to provide a lot of economic stimulus for the Lae community and the greater part of the province..
