AU eases admission criteria for undergraduate courses

Prayagraj: Following the relaxation extended by National Testing Agency for admission to undergraduate courses, authorities of Allahabad University have also made some relaxation in terms of the choice of domain subject, in which the candidate appeared for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET). Earlier, for admission to BA-LLB, students were required to take a test of legal knowledge in the domain, while for admission to BFA Fine Arts and BPA, the music subject was mandatory. But now AU has abolished these compulsory subjects, which will make it easier for students to take admission in these courses.

Admission to undergraduate courses in Allahabad University (AU) and its constituent colleges will be done through CUET, which may be held between May 8 and June 1. Five marks will be awarded for each correct answer, while one mark will be deducted for every wrong answer. Explaining the matrix behind the new relaxed norms and choice of domain subject, Director Admissions, AU, Prof JK Pati said that for admission to BA-LLB (Hons), BFA, BVoc Media Production, BA Media Studies, Five year Integrated Programme in Management (BBA & MBA) and Five Year Integrated Programme in Disaster Management and Environmental Studies, the candidate has to appear in English or Hindi and a general aptitude test, both being compulsory subjects.



Against the third subject, there are around 22 subjects, candidate can appear in any one of the subjects to get admission. "If the candidate appeared in any of the subjects (as the third compulsory subject) including Accountancy/Book Keeping, Agriculture, Anthropology, Biology/Biological Studies/Biotechnology/Biochemistry, Business Studies, Chemistry, Environmental Studies, Computer Science/Informatics Practices, Economics/Business Economics, Entrepreneurship, Geography/Geology, History, Home Science, Mass Media/Mass Communication, Mathematics/Applied Mathematics, Physics, Political Science, Psychology, or Sociology, he or she can get admission in any of the above-mentioned UG courses, be it BA-LLB or BFA or Media Studies," said Prof Pati. Likewise, for admission to the Five Year Integrated Programme in Family & Community Sciences, candidate has to appear in English or Hindi and a general aptitude test is compulsory and any one subject including Home Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biological Studies/Biotechnology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Environmental Studies/Environmental Science will be the third option.

For admission to BSc (Maths group), BCA (3 year), Five Year Integrated BCA & MCA (Data Science), BVoc (Software Development), besides the compulsory subject, any one of the subjects including Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science/Information Practices, Geography/Geology, Environmental Studies/Environmental Science will qualify the merit. In the BSc (Biology group) course and B.Voc.

Food Processing and Technology, Biology/Biological Studies/Biotechnology, Physics, Chemistry, Anthropology, Environmental Studies/Environmental Science are the third optional subject, said the Director Admissions..
