The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) confirmed the disruption after a transformer failure halted operations early on Saturday, December 14. The malfunction, which occurred at approximately 1:00 AM, involved the B-phase current transformer of the main transformer (No. 1).
This failure led to the stoppage of six out of 20 booster pumps that are crucial for the city’s water supply, severely impacting the distribution system. BMC officials have prioritised the repair of the damaged transformer, which is expected to continue throughout the weekend. As a result, the water supply cut will affect Mumbai city, its suburbs, as well as Thane and Bhiwandi, lasting until Sunday, December 15.
