Pune: The Pune Rural police have foiled an attempt by five-member gang to steal cash from an ATM Kiosk at Saradwadi near Shirur, about 65km from the city. The police have arrested three men and seized a container truck, LPG cylinder and a gas cutter. The gang members included men from Haryana and Rajasthan, police said.

The remaining two members of the gang managed to escape from the spot. The police teams are now searching for them. Preliminary investigation has revealed that the two men, who ran away from the crime scene, were involved in multiple thefts at ATM kiosks in rural Pune in the past.

The arrested suspects were identified as Kutubuddin Hussain (31) of Bharatpur in Rajasthan, Yasin Khan (32) and Raul Khan (32), both of Nuh district in Haryana. The police teams acted on a tip-off received by the inspector Avinash Shilimkar of the local crime branch. The tip-off claimed that a few men were preparing to steal cash from an ATM kiosk near Saradwadi, a Pune Rural police officer said.

"They parked their container truck near an eatery. With the help of Shirur police, we laid a trap to catch them. We noticed two men standing near the vehicle.

Seeing the police team, they fled from the spot. We found three others inside the cabin and took them into custody," the officer said. He said the police found a gas cutter, gas cylinder, bottle of black spray, and rod in the container truck.

"We seized it along with the vehicle. A case under section 310 (4) (preparation of dacoity) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) was registered against the suspects," he said..
