Gurgaon: Manesar mayor Inderjeet Kaur Yadav announced weekly meetings with ward councillors to address local concerns, with the inaugural House meeting due soon. During an introductory gathering, MCM officials were asked to prioritise issues reported by the new councillors. "Efforts will be made to make MCM the number one corporation in the country.
Cooperation from all councillors is essential for this. Councillors will help prepare development plans for their respective wards and work will be completed on a priority basis. The first house meeting will be held soon, and all councillors should bring written reports of their ward issues so that solutions can be sought instead of just discussing problems," the mayor said.
Meanwhile, MCM commissioner Renu Sogan instructed junior engineers to submit weekly field reports from each ward to her and the mayor. To address several councillors' concern of long-pending sewer line cleaning, the commissioner said the agency concerned should be issued a notice seeking its response. She also told the councillors that the drinking water scarcity issue should be resolved at the earliest and water should be supplied to residents by tankers as a temporary relief.
On door-to-door garbage collection , she said that a tender has been sent to the headquarters of the local bodies department, and a solution will be provided soon. The mayor, who claimed to have BJP leader and MP Rao Inderjit Singh's support, defeated BJP nominee Sunder Lal Yadav by 2,293 votes to become the first mayor of Manesar earlier this month. She bagged 26,393 votes while the BJP candidate won 24,100 votes.
The mayor's husband and 15 councillors - among them were 13 who fought as Independent candidates - recently met Singh, sparking speculation that they will join BJP. However, Rao said on Friday that no new inductions will happen in the party for now. Of 20 wards in MCM, seven were won by the BJP while the remaining went to Independent councillors.
