For years, rumors have floated around about an Xbox gaming handheld. It was all rumors until last November, when Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer and Xbox Gaming Devices Vice President Jason Ronald confirmed that an Xbox gaming handheld is in the works. Things got more interesting, as The Verge reports in a paywalled article that ASUS will reportedly be the manufacturer of the Xbox gaming handheld.
The rumor looks to be very plausible considering Lenovo has a Legion Go S that comes with SteamOS instead of Windows 11. Reportedly called Project Kennan, the rumored ASUS Xbox gaming handheld will use a Ryzen Z2 Go chip–the same one powering the Legion Go S, and will cost anywhere between $500 to $600 or around the Php 30k to Php 35k range.Project Kennan will have Xbox branding, so we visualize it as something like the Ally X that has Xbox branding instead of ASUS’ ROG branding.
There are reports that it might launch later this year, though The Verge notes that the project is still in its development phase. As for software, it will still run Windows, but will adopt an Xbox interface.Rumors aside, the idea of an Xbox handheld coming to reality is exciting, especially with Sony toying with the idea of an actual PlayStation gaming handheld that lets you play your games on the go without needing to access your PlayStation 5 remotely.
