The new executives are: Wayang Kawa (Kwembu Executive and President), Andrew Kupa (Executive of Nauti and Vice President), Bob Jerom (Executive of Winima and Treasurer), Naino Kwamio (Executive of Nauti and Secretary). Nakuwi, which stands for NA (Nauti), KU (Kwembu), and WI (Winima), represents the three landowner villages affected by mining operations.

The association consists of 10 committee members, including two women representatives. Mr Kawa said the Nakuwi Association remains the primary representative body for landowners in negotiations with Harmony Gold Mine, as well as national and provincial government stakeholders. “Nakuwi is the voice of the three landowner villages,” he said.

“We are here to negotiate and advocate for the best interests of our people in all discussions related to mining operations.” He noted that many benefits were secured under the leadership of the former president, the late Rex Mauri. With the new executives in place, they have the authority to participate in the upcoming 2005 Hidden Valley Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) review, which is set to be held in Lae this week.

“The review is a critical process, and our team is prepared to ensure that landowners receive fair benefits and recognition in the mining operations,” Mr Kawa said..
