Japanese lawmakers elected to the House of Representatives in the general election last October had an average of 26.85 million yen in declarable financial assets and real estate, the lowest amount since comparable data became available in 1993, financial statements show. The total sum, which includes cash but excludes stock holdings, was down about 2.

39 million yen from the previous disclosure in 2022, and the powerful lower house also had more lawmakers with no assets that should be disclosed. Of the 465 lower house members, 22 had assets worth 100 million yen or more, down four from the previous disclosure, while 94 lawmakers had no assets to be declared, up 17 from before. The average figure among a total of 99 first-term members came to 9.



82 million yen, down by roughly half from that for first-term members in the previous tally, with about a third saying they had no financial assets or real estate subject to disclosure. Kyodo News compiled the tally based on the disclosed reports. Former Prime Minister Taro Aso, who is currently the ruling Liberal Democratic Party's supreme adviser, topped the list with 601.

53 million yen in assets, with eight of the top 10 spots dominated by LDP members. Among party leaders, LDP chief Shigeru Ishiba, who became prime minister last October, had 15.55 million yen, ranking fourth.

Tetsuo Saito, who leads the Komeito party, the LDP's junior coalition partner, had by far the most assets among party chiefs at 220.44 million yen, followed Seiji Maehara, co-head of the Japan Innovation Party, at 38.18 million yen and Yoshihiko Noda, leader of the main opposition Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan, at 23.
