OUR CORRESPONDENT As malaria cases rose in the region, the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Hub at CIT Kokrajhar, funded by DST, Government of India, conducted a four-day “Healthy Communities: Malaria Awareness & Comprehensive Health Checkup Campaign” from December 12 to 15 at Simbargaon in . The event supported the efforts of the BTC and state government to combat malaria, combining healthcare services with community engagement. The campaign was led by Principal Investigator Dr.
Pranav Kumar Singh and Co-Principal Investigator Dr. Kaushik Chandra Deva Sarma and the STIHub team. It featured free health check-ups by Dr.
Himangshu Das and the Balajan PHC team, benefiting residents aged 12 and older. Dr. Das also conducted an awareness session on malaria prevention, emphasizing hygiene, mosquito nets, and avoiding stagnant water.
The second phase included “Healthy Hours Activities,” promoting physical fitness and teamwork among local youth through sports competitions, and more. The Assam Women’s Tchoukball team’s participation inspired the community, reinforcing the value of sports. This initiative showcased a successful collaboration between STIHub, Balajan PHC, and the community, enhancing health awareness and fostering well-being in Simbargaon.
