Assam: Renowned author Dr Jayanta Madhab Bora receives ‘Bakya Xahitya Award 2024’

Such recognition should inspire emerging talents striving to improve society; they must not be discouraged,” said eminent writer and recipient Dr Jayanta Madhab Bora. He made these remarks while accepting the “Bakya Xahitya Award 2024,” presented by the leading publishing house Bakya at an event in Sivasagar on Sunday. During his address, Dr Bora referenced the journey of Kolkata’s legendary author Bibhutibhushan Bandyopadhyay, emphasizing how affection and encouragement transformed an ordinary man into a literary icon.



He also remarked that the younger generation is nurturing the dream of spreading love and humanity through their creative efforts. Presenting the award, cultural researcher Dr Anil Saikia noted that literature emerges from the impulses of the heart, the vision of editors, and the dedication of publishers. “Dr Jayanta Madhab Bora creates literature driven purely by the call of his heart.

Only a diamond can recognize another diamond,” said Dr Saikia. At the same event, Dr Ritamoni Bora’s short story collection Golpobur Bhalpowa (Loving Stories) was unveiled by Dr Sabyasachi Mahanta, Principal of Gargaon College and a noted columnist. He praised Dr Bora’s storytelling, saying, “Her effortless narration and simplicity make her stories enjoyable and relatable.

Through her works, readers can grasp the true essence of love and relationships.” Renowned historian Nabin Buragohain launched Paaneer Pohorot (In the Light of Water), a poetry collection by Bakya’s director Satyajit Nath. On the other hand, celebrated poet Gangamohan Mili released the poetry magazine Bhasha (Language), while veteran writer Prema Gogoi unveiled poet Mintu Sagar Das’s collection titled Asampadakiya Prishtha (Uneditorial Pages).

The event, anchored by Zilla Xahitya Xabha’s Secretary Santosh Dutta, witnessed the presence of many dignitaries, including Dr Dhruba Jyoti Nath, Principal of Pioli Phukan College, Namti; writer Dr Prashanta Kumar Chutia; Axom Unnati Xabha Secretary Sarat Hazarika and literary personalities such as Bijay Rabi Das, Ashrumoni Dutta Ghosh, Pramod Arandhara, Manoj Kumar Gogoi, Dr Lipi Phukan, and Nabajyoti Saikia. During the programme, newly-elected Assistant General Secretary of AASU Samiran Phukan, was felicitated by the Sibsagar Press Club, represented by acting General Secretary Himanshu Neog.
